On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 6:53 p.m., Moore County Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a cardiac arrest at 17 Country Club Boulevard.  Within seconds of the call, the Whispering Pines Fire Rescue Department (WPFRD) and Moore County EMS (Medic 1 & 91) were dispatched.  The following personnel responded:

From Whispering Pines Fire Rescue Department:
Lieutenant/Firefighter/EMT Nick Campbell
Firefighter/EMT Spencer Gomez
Junior Firefighter Jay Neal
Firefighter/EMT Juan Gomez
Firefighter/EMT Andrew Drummond
Lieutenant/Firefighter/EMT Brooke Dozier (from home in her personal vehicle)
EMT Jim Reynolds (from home in his personal vehicle)

From Medic 1 & 91:
Paramedic Debbie King
Paramedic Robert Chanonat
Paramedic Michelle Dallay

At 6:55 p.m., 1 minute 59 seconds after dispatch, SQ51 arrived on scene to find an adult male in full arrest, which means he wasn’t breathing and had no pulse.  The crew immediately assessed the patient and began administering high quality CPR, ventilating the patient, and preparing the automatic external defibrillator (AED) for use.  Within a couple minutes additional WPFRD personnel arrived to assist with CPR and ventilating the patient.  At 6:59 p.m., approximately 3 minutes after the arrival of SQ51, the patient regained a pulse.

Soon thereafter, Medic 1 & 91 arrived on scene to initiate advanced life support (ALS) care.  At this point each rescuer began taking turns ventilating the patient, maintaining an airway, administering medications and/or preparing the patient for transport.   At 7:19 p.m., approximately 26 minutes after receiving the 911 call, the patient was loaded for transport to Moore Regional Hospital, with a WPFRD member driving Medic 1, which enabled the paramedics to focus on ALS care.

Subsequently, the patient was discharged from the hospital and is doing very well.  So well in fact, that Mr. John Harte and his wife Cindy are with us tonight.  If Mr. Harte looks familiar, its because this is the 2nd time that he has been revived with CPR in the last 2 years.  On January 7, 2017, Mr. Harte suffered cardiac arrest and was successfully revived by WPFRD, (including Nick, Brooke & Spencer) & Moore County EMS.

This outstanding outcome was a direct result of their training and teamwork, while sharing a common goal of providing the best possible care to the patient.

This is our 4th documented CPR Save in the last 3 years.  Of these incidents, this is the 3rd CPR Save for Nick, Brooke & Spencer.

We have confirmed a 5th CPR Save from a month ago that we will be recognizing in the future.
